Opinionated Balloons
— the room has opinions, the darts have follow-up questions
What is an opinionated balloon? It’s a balloon that contains air with a strongly held view about how a room ought to be arranged. Nobody asked it. It has notes anyway.
The world may never know why. But what the world does know is this: if you put ten of them in a room with a fan, a window, and a corkboard full of darts, there WILL be opinions.
And that is your job in this game. You work the corkboard. Click anywhere in the room to launch a dart. Some balloons flee. Some investigate. Some hide behind their neighbors. And one considers the entire subject slanderous.
Do it right and you’ll thin the caucus. Do it wrong and — doesn’t matter, there’s no score and no way to win. But here’s the twist: the survivors update their opinions. Pop a balloon and its neighbors permanently change their tune. The room remembers.
Controls:
Click the room to throw a dart. That’s the whole manual.
Room services:
Pause room
Refill room
Add one more opinion
Open or close the window
Change fan strength slider, because the room comes with weather.
FAQ:
Is there a way to win? No. The room has no score, no finish line, and no verdict. The caucus continues.
Do the balloons come back? Popped balloons are gone, but “Refill room” reseeds the population, and “Add one more opinion” introduces a new balloon with its own view of the world.
Why do the survivors change what they say? Balloons are social creatures. Pop one and its neighbors revise their positions — permanently. The room remembers everything you did to it.
Does it work on a phone? It’s a click-to-throw game. On a touch screen, a throw is a tap. Try it and see who’s more surprised.
