A Roguelike Journey to the Surface
The garden is a beautiful place, but beneath the leaves and flowers, a silent hunt is unfolding.
In Ladybug’s Garden, you take on the role of a determined ladybug navigating the deep, dark layers of the garden soil. Your mission is simple but perilous: find the warmth of the sun and reach the surface. But the garden is not empty, and the path is never the same twice.
The Hunt for Aphids
The surface is a long way up, and a ladybug needs her strength! To unlock the Sunlight Exit at each level, you must first hunt down and collect at least 3 delicious green aphids. Use the environment to your advantage, weaving through leafy plants, colorful blooms, and ancient stones as you track your prey.
Survival of the Quickest
You aren’t the only hunter in the soil. A persistent Purple Spider is always on your trail. Depending on your chosen difficulty, the spider’s behavior shifts:
-
Little Kid: A relaxed stroll through a sparsely populated garden with a very lazy, easily confused spider.
-
Easy & Normal: The spider is jittery and unpredictable, wandering the garden paths and occasionally picking up your scent.
-
Hardcore: Beware. On Hardcore mode, the spider becomes a vicious heat-seeking missile. It calculates the most efficient path to your position with ruthless precision, moving nearly every time you do.
A Visual Journey
Watch the world change as you climb! With every successful level, the soil shifts in color—moving from the deep, cool dark of the bottom layers to the lighter, warmer earth as you get closer to the bright yellow glow of the exit. Keep an eye on your Distance to Surface bar to see just how much further you have to go.
Game Features:
-
Procedural Garden Layouts: Every level is a fresh challenge with new arrangements of plants and obstacles.
-
Adaptive AI: A spider that learns to be more aggressive based on your skill level.
-
Strategic Movement: Use the “No-Clip” rock physics to outmaneuver the spider around tight corners.
-
Progressive Difficulty: How many layers can you clear before the spider catches up?
Guide your ladybug home—the surface is waiting.

A Note from the Developer
Creating Ladybug’s Garden was an exercise in translating the tactile peace of organic gardening into a digital format. The design was deeply influenced by the real-world effort of tending to soil and seeds in the Arizona high desert. In this game, the ladybugs are more than just a mechanic; they represent the vital, natural balance required to keep a garden healthy and thriving without chemicals.
While the code provides the structure, the heart of the game comes from the winding paths and organic practices found in a true garden. It serves as a quiet sanctuary to celebrate the slow, rewarding growth that happens when we work in harmony with nature.
